About Us

The Jacobsen Family

As a family we have been serving with Mercy Ships since July of 2009.  From the day we were accepted by Mercy Ships to the day we stepped foot upon the Africa Mercy it was 82 days.  God worked mightily to get us to the ship.

We are originally from Lynden, Washington, USA.  We have served with Mercy Ships in the countries of Benin, Togo, and South Africa. Currently we are serving with Mercy Ships in Freetown, Sierra Leone.  We will be in Freetown until December 2011.

Mike and Deb

Mike and Deb have been married since May of 1994.  They met the first day of seminary at the Associate Canadian Theological Schools (ACTS) in Canada.  Prior to joining Mercy Ships, they were in full-time pastoral ministry for 15 years. They pastored in Colorado, Montana, and in California.  They also owned a Christian Bookstore in North Dakota.

Mike works on the ship as the Financial Director.  Being Financial Director keeps him very busy.  Deb is currently working in the hospital ward as an Administrative Assistant.  She loves being with the patients and day volunteers.
They have two children who have joined them aboard the Africa Mercy, Alisia and Joshua.

Alisia
Alisia is a creative and inquisitive,16 year old young lady.  She loves learning about history and reading anything she can get her hands on.  She is currently in grade 11 and thoroughly enjoying her time on the ship.  One of the jobs she enjoys on the ship is being a receptionist.

Joshua

Joshua is an energetic and playful young man.  He is 13 years old and loving grade 7.  Although many times he would rather play than go to school.  His passion is riding his "Ripstick" and playing games with anyone who will play-which is easy to find someone since we live in community.
