"Poverty..."

It is interesting, in Canada and the United States, waterfront property sells for millions.  People pine to have houses that overlook the ocean or a lake front property.  In the western world, it is often seen as a symbol of status or wealth..."I've made it!"

In Freetown, it is completely opposite.  Living along the waterfront is a sign of poverty.  We are continually surrounded by it.  Every time we walk out our guarded gate, look out into Freetown from Deck 8...we come face to face with our new reality...poverty.  It is a reality of brokenness, hopelessness..."I'm in desperate need."

There is no pining for the "best view or the best house."  Only a pining of "How can I get out of here...There is no way out."
